Recently, Foster Stockbroking launched a new investment vehicle called Cranport Resources Fund.
Cranport was established more than 20 years ago and has historically operated as a family office investment fund with a particular focus on the small-cap sector.
Over recent years, we received increasing interest from external investors seeking access to Cranport’s investment strategy, track record and capabilities. In response to this demand, we established the Cranport Resources fund, a dedicated investment vehicle designed to provide eligible wholesale investors with the opportunity to participate alongside the initial unitholders.
The Cranport Resources fund was launched in July 2025 by Stuart Foster and Mark Hinsley who provided the initial seed capital, and they both continue to manage the fund. As the fund’s founders, seed investors, and largest unitholders, their capital is deeply aligned with our investors’ success.
The plan for the fund is to construct a high-conviction portfolio of approximately 20-30 predominantly small-mid cap ASX-listed resources companies.
The fund has delivered exceptional performance since its inception. For a detailed breakdown of the historical returns, please visit the performance page of their website https://www.cranport.com/performance-1
Our decision to focus on resources equities is based on the following five factors:
- New mine developments are becoming more difficult, with challenges such as permitting and funding resulting in lack of new builds (or at a minimum significant delays to timelines);
- We are seeing few new genuine world-class discoveries and for existing operations we have seen cost pressures. This all results in supply challenges;
- Demand however is expected to be strong with the world decarbonisation and Ai themes only gathering more pace;
- Heightened uncertainty, geopolitical volatility, inflation fears and substantial government debts are also strong tailwinds for precious metals such as gold; and
- Ultimately, this all bodes well for commodity prices in the medium-longer term.
Investing in the Cranport Resources Fund also provides investors with the opportunity to participate in select capital market transactions undertaken by firms with which Cranport has established relationships—opportunities that may not otherwise be accessible to individual investors.
